JULY 30TH, 2017 - RUTH CHRIS STEAKHOUSE
“It’s always been that obvious.”
Aiden sat back in his seat and gave Maisi a long look. She didn't seem affected one way or another by the revelation. The two of them had basically been together since birth due to their family ties and the expectations placed on them thanks to an ancient deal their ancestors had made. Aiden couldn't say for sure if he had ever loved Maisi but she had been the only person by his side for all the major events in his life.
“I know you probably don't believe me but I never wanted to hurt you.”
Maisi stifled a laugh. “Spare me because we both know you're not being sincere. I realized senior year you were not the man for me. You've always been a cheater, a douchebag, and a disappointment. But even though I still loved you, I knew things wouldn't change. I'm shocked we even made it down the aisle, really. I didn't think either of us were that greedy.”
“Trust me, you're not fucking perfect either.” Aiden couldn't resist taking a personal shot. “You're self absorbed and fucking frigid in bed.”
“Gunnar doesn't think so.” Maisi winked and folded her hands in her lap. “Aiden, I don't care that you're in love with Hailey. You're free to do whatever you want to do with her. I fully accept that she's everything I'm not, and that you two have way more in common than you and I do.”
“Then why did you fake a pregnancy to hang on to me?”
It was a fair question and one that made Maisi shift uncomfortably in her seat. After pausing for a moment, she reached for her bag and began rummaging around inside of it. She pulled out a crumpled photograph. Reluctantly, she handed it over to Aiden.
“It didn't start off as fake,” Maisi admitted, unable to look Aiden in his eyes. “But after you left me, I decided to get an abortion. Finding out you were going to be a dad forced you to abandon ship so to speak, and I had zero desire to be a single mother. I made a decision that I felt suited us both. You never brought it up or questioned anything, so I just went with it until obviously everyone figured it out.”
Aiden didn't know what to say.

SAME DAY - GUNNAR ERIKSSEN’S APARTMENT
Despite the fact Gunnar didn't have a lot of stuff, it had taken the movers almost the entire day to pack it all up. Gunnar was going to be gone for the next six months and most of his stuff was going into a storage container. Philip Corvington III had been supervising the situation for the most part because his client had disappeared. But Gunnar was back now and things were wrapping up. Philip was attempting to have a conversation about the match. Gunnar wasn't interested in listening.
"Are you even paying attention to me?" Philip finally asked, completely exhausted. "You take Hailey Banks lightly and she can pull off the upset. You made the decision to try your luck over in Svensk Wrestling Syd, so after Tuesday there are no more opportunities in So-Cal. This is it, Gunnar. Your last chance to make a statement. Your last chance to show them why you should be the Ultraviolent Champion and not Reece Crosslin. Your last chance to get revenge on those two idiotic boofheads."
"Is your revenge, not mine. I do this favor." Gunnar paused, searching for the right English words to use. They didn't come to him so he switched to his native Icelandic. "Þú gerðir of mörg mistök í þetta sinn. You fuck up?"
Philip looked slightly shocked. "H-How did I make mistakes? Trixie came for me and they KIDNAPPED me for her. Technically, I could have just sued them according to the American justice system. But I chose to let you take care of that!"
"You could have got me title shot," Gunnar pointed out, trying not to lose his temper. "Djöfulsins helvíti, Philip. I deserve more than skít fight with a helvítis hóra and asni. I fight Crosslin, not faggot like Finn. I get shot in SWS. Is only logical move thanks to you. You fail me."
Gunnar got up and headed into the kitchen, leaving Philip at a loss for words. Finally, Philip walked in after Gunnar. Gunnar was sitting at the bar with a bottle of Carlsberg in front of him.
"I wasn't trying to let you down," Philip began, but Gunnar held up his hand.
"I beat Banks, no doubts. Go to Svíþjóð and win title. Have vacation. If I come back, then you do job right next time."
Philip sighed. "Alright. I'll talk to Gage Landon about an Ultraviolent Championship shot upon your return. Your leg is fully healed now. Hailey Banks is going to be the example you send to everyone. Her speed can't compete with your power. Her focus isn't there. It's an easy win come Tuesday."
Gunnar nodded.
