As soon as the door slammed, Logan closed his eyes to take a deep breath. When he opened them the sight of Sadie standing in the doorway to the suite’s bedroom caught his eye. Her shoulders were tense and the expression on her face was an unfamiliar one. The way her fingers were curled up so tightly must have been making her fingernails dig into her hands painfully.
“Hey babe… ” Logan knew she heard the exchange, especially due to her demeanor.
She had stayed out of it, which wasn’t entirely surprising. When she finally ventured past the doorway, however, her gaze was fixed on the exit that had just been closed rather than Logan himself. It wasn’t hard to imagine what she intended.
Logan approached her from behind and rubbed her shoulders, trying to prevent her from opening the door. “Don't listen or play to anything she says. Stay here with me.”
Her hand was on the doorknob, knuckles white from the grip, but at his urging, she relented. “Alright, for you, but I swear if I see her again...”
“You can do as you wish, with my support. Deal?” He reached for her hand, rubbing it gently as he pried it away from the door and took it into his own.
After a moment longer, her fingers gently curled into his. Her free hand, however, reached up to touch the red mark on the side of his face. The intense gray-blue of her eyes was hard as she stared at it.
“I'm okay, I promise.” He smiled faintly, just enough to assure her.
Hesitantly, she let the thought go, but not his hand. “It’s still a good night,” she nodded, trying to push away what had just happened for what had come before. “You won, and in convincing fashion. You did exactly what you said you would.”
“I did, indeed. And brought back a present.” He looked over to the briefcase.
The last bit made her blush, ever so slightly. “You did. That was… surprising, to say the least.” She had been standing there when it happened, of course. “Unexpected, but not entirely unwelcome. Speaking of presents, though… I got you something.”
“Did you now?” Logan seemed surprised. He wasn't used to receiving gifts often. “Where is this present?”
“Wait right here.” The way she rose up on her toes for half a second out of excitement was as adorable as the first time he’d seen her do it. Much like the way she had to consciously keep herself from hurrying back into the bedroom to find the item in question.
After a few moments she returned, a small package in hand. It was wrapped rather elegantly in a matte black paper with a deep red bow on top. She bit at the piercing in the corner of her lip as she held it out to him. “It’s just a little something. I hope it’s not too much.”
Logan smirked and nodded, already appreciative of the gesture itself. He untied the bow and opened the box to reveal a set of keys. However, he noticed quickly they weren’t for a car. As he looked up to Sadie, his eyes were open wide and mouth slightly as well, extremely surprised. One of those goofy laughs that come from being speechless escaped him. After he composed himself and shook his head to ensure he wasn't dreaming, he hugged and kissed her. “A motorcycle?”
“Yeah,” she murmured, buried somewhere in the hug of his thick arms. “I see how you look at every one that drives past...”
“You're the absolute best, babe. Thank you so much.” His hug relinquished, and he beamed as he looked down into his hand at the keys. “Can't believe it, really.”
“It’s waiting back in Chicago.” She smiled almost coyly as she looked up at his towering form. It was a relief that he was happy with the gift. Not that she thought he wouldn’t be, it was more about it being slightly extravagant.
“Two helmets?” He raised his brow, wanting to make sure she'd be riding with him.
The question caught her off guard for just a moment, and then she smiled again. “Of course.” The thought made her heart skip a beat. “I’ve never ridden on a motorcycle before. I’m excited.”
“Just hold on tight and I'll take care of the rest. You'll get addicted to it.” Logan spoke with excitement. The thought alone had his adrenaline pumping.
“I don’t imagine holding on tight to you will be a problem.” Giggling for a moment, she slipped her fingers in between his. “I’m glad you like it, and congratulations on your first win.”
“Thank you, sexy. Couldn't do it without you.” His smile couldn't get any bigger. “The first of many.”
“You put in the work,” she reminded him. “You trained, you studied. You won the match. It was all you.”
“Yes, that's true. But, without your business acumen and motivation, for seeing something in me, I may have not taken the step.”
Though she dipped her head at the compliment, Sadie still insisted the victory was his, “You give me too much credit.”
“Teamwork makes this possible. We fight on two different fronts,” He assured her with his expression, a slight nod accompanying his gaze into her eyes.
“Well, even if we can't agree on who deserves more credit,” she smirked, “at least we can agree it’s worth celebrating. However we see fit.”
“It is… and speaking of which, I may have a present for you as well.” He smirked and reached into his pocket, removing a small box and placing it into her palm.
One brow raised in curiosity as she peered at the box. She really had no idea what it might be, and she almost didn't want to open it, just to savor the moment. “You didn't have to…”
“That's the beauty of it. I don't have to do anything, but you make me want to just by being in my life.”
After just a moment longer Sadie pulled the lid from the box. The other brow raised to join the first as she reached in and pulled out a single key. After a moment she looked up at him quizzically.
“I never want you to have to leave Chicago again… especially since now you have an office there.” Logan winked at her and smiled, knowing how much she wanted a spot of her own to conduct business.
As his words sunk in, she looked back down at the key again. The smile she had been wearing before somehow managed to grow even more and she threw her arms back around his neck. “Thank you!”
He hugged her tight and kissed her on the neck as they joined. “Anything for you, babe.”
“I’ll clean out my office here before we leave and cancel the lease,” she decided excitedly. “I don't have much there.”
“I'll help you with anything you need. We can do it together.” His excitement showed through his expression, anxious but happy.
After a few more moments in his embrace, Sadie leaned back. “This is just the start,” she promised. “You're going to be great in So-Cal and anywhere else you go.”
Logan took a deep breath, nodding in agreement. “We have a winning combination, and I won't stop pushing ahead.”
She tucked the key back into its box, and did the same with the set of motorcycle keys she had presented him with. Both boxes were deposited on the table, and then she turned back to him. “Now, I believe we had made some promises regarding a victory…”
He rested his hands on her sides, rubbing up and down gently. “Refresh my memory.” He cheekily smirked.
“Trivial things,” she played along. “I believe there was a back rub, breakfast in bed… and something I can't seem to recall.”
“Those sound good. Maybe your memory will refresh for the third thing.” A wink followed. “But, I'm pretty sure I know.”
“Well why don't we get started, and I bet it will jog my memory.” She feigned an innocent grin before hopping up and wrapping her arms and legs around him.
Logan walked her back toward the room as he kissed her deeply, kicking the door closed behind him as they passed the threshold.
