#FISTOFHYDRA 5.0
On my own.
She caught the first flight back home, not even getting a shower. After the scene with Finn and seeing things that probably weren’t there, Elena had zero energy left. The flight went eventless, which was a nice change. By now, she was so used to crying kids behind her, or incompetent flight staff.
Getting out of the plane, the first thing she spotted was her little sunshine, who was restless on Christian’s arm. He put her down with a bright smile, watching her run towards Elena. Cuddling Isabella close was the best thing that had happened over the past few days, the one thing that kept her on her toes. She picked her up and walked closer to them, greeted by her husband. She buried her head into his chest. She only then noticed that there were two more people here for her today: Lisa and Austin.
My kids.
As absurd as it sounded, it’s the truth. She gave both a brief hug before walking towards their monster of a car; all of them slid in, with Austin, Elena and Isabella getting comfortable on the backseat. They drove in silence, apart from her daughter here and there shooting her a question. The usual one was, ‘Where is Unca Finn?’
“Elena… did you listen to me?” It was Austin's voice that brought her back to reality.
“Yeah. I’m sorry… just a little tired.”
She tried to sound as neutral as possible, her face still turned towards the Mansion. Or better said, an endless driveway and the trees that Christian had placed there for her. It was hard to be in a bitter mood when you received that kind of love. But despite being rather grateful, she currently couldn’t see the beauty in it. Her mind kept drifting off. To Finn. His sister. And to those damn letters.
“Shall we have a little BBQ today? Celebrate your new title win?” Christian. He was talking to her.
You gotta say something. You gotta make them happy.
“Of course. Since Austin and Lisa are finally here too… .”
A stunning smile appeared on his face when they finally parked the car, making their way inside. She waved at them, but took a little longer on purpose -- something that didn’t go unnoticed by Austin, who remained next to her.
“What’s troubling you, Mom?” He was clearly trying to tease her, knowing that she hated being called that. But instead of the usual playful comment, she only shrugged her shoulders.
“I’m fine.”
“You just won a title in a very established place, but I see no smile on your face. Has dad pissed you off… I’ll kick him for you.”
Again, someone that wanted to help her. She took her suitcase out of the trunk, closing it carefully. When her gaze finally met his, she immediately regretted it. Seeing the concern, Elena leaned against the car, closing her eyes for a moment.
“I just have a few things on my mind, nothing too massive. I needed to clean up messes that were not mine and just when I thought I did… I slither into one even worse. That’s the main problem. I just don’t have time for that. I’ve got people that wanna test my limits. I’ve got a career.”
She made a small pause, her eyes still closed.
“People like Damon Xalvador. Nasty fellah.”
“That might be the case, but if you look behind all that blah, blah what is there left? Yeah, he has more muscles than brain cells. But even I punch harder than he does. Which kinda sounds counter-productive, right? I haven’t worked so hard for this title to hand it over to just anyone.”
Her voice was calm. Altogether, she was way too collected. Something that Austin wasn’t used to. She was a passionate person.
“I’ve seen him compete in other places; the guy is more intelligent than you’d give him credit for. Keeps his focus on the prize.”
“Like he kept his focus on Frost? I’ve seen the most intelligent fall before my feet, like Linc. Maybe Damon’s muscles give him stamina, but the truth is -- it takes a lot more than that. I ain’t one of those little hoppy-floppy’s that’ll break under pain inflicted. If anything, it’ll motivate me to get him down, where none of his muscles, or mind games will help him. Down there, it’s about wrestling in its purest form. Submission holds. Yeah. Something that Damon hardly wastes time with.”
She was interrupted by a few birds flying off right above their heads. One of them, leaving its mark on Christian’s favourite car. Next to her, she heard AJM laugh, like a little boy.
“I just say that, you gotta concentrate on your qualities more than his flaws. Your technique. Your experience. And even your masochistic nature.”
“Kiddo, now you sound like your father… .”
“I think I am a Mercer after all.”
