Bouncing Maisi’s face off of the concrete was a long time coming. Ever since the two first met, Maisi didn’t like Hailey. It was probably because Aiden and Hailey were close in school. I mean, what else were the two members of the group known to the wrestling world as “the Fraternity” to do when Lord and Raven were off singing songs from Aladdin and reenacting every cheesy disney movie? Hailey and Aiden became super close, best-friends even. Maisi was jealous, that was obvious. So, she tried to control Aiden with a pregnancy that was clearly fake. Hailey warned him, but some shred of him still loved Maisi, for whatever reason. But now that he's seen the truth, he asked Hailey if he walked away … would she go with him? That question has burned in Hailey’s mind for weeks. She needed to give him an answer.
Hailey sat at Starbucks, of course. Where else would Hails be? She had her venti vanilla frappuccino in front of her, and through her oversized sunglasses she looked around anxiously for someone. Would it be Aiden? It had been a couple of days since Hailey spoke to Aiden. The last time they did, he asked her his question again. Would you go with me? Leave all of this. Hailey sighed, unsure of what she wanted to do. In her heart she knew the answer, but there was so many questions her mind had. Then a look of relief crossed Hailey’s face. She stood up, a huge smile spreading and she embraced Tara Jacobs in a hug as she approached. “Thank you so much for meeting me!” Hailey exclaimed just after the embrace ended. Tara sat at the table, opposite of Hailey. She hung her bag on her chair, removing her sunglasses and laying them on the table top. Hailey did the same.
“No problem, Hailey. What can I help you with?” Tara asked, watching Hailey take a sip from her drink. After placing the cup on the table top, Hailey's eyes lifted to Tara. “You're one of the very few people that really know Gunnar Erikssen.” You could hear a frustrated sigh escaping Tara's lips at the mention of Gunnar. “I've studied tapes, I've read what people have written about him. I just want to know if there's anything I'm missing.” Hailey knew going into this she was severely out matched, so any help she could get was greatly appreciated.
“Hailey, his strength is well documented and he's as ruthless as they come in the ring. Why Cortez signed off on this match is beyond me. I get you both had issues but he's almost a whole foot taller than you are and over a hundred pounds heavier. Inside of a cage, it's going to be a massacre.” Tara said, her voice dripping with concern.
“I'm not intimidated by Gunnar, Tara. I've defied the odds and beaten men bigger than me before. I just have to outsmart them, like I did to Christian Jones and Tyler Devlin at King of California Five.” She didn't sound arrogant, but was sure of herself. That match was equally as challenging, but there was one factor she was overlooking. “That wasn't in a cage.” Tara replied. Hailey nodded her head, eyes falling. “I know, and that’s the thing that has me shaken. I know that I can out wrestle Gunnar. I’ve watched his matches, especially the ones against Riley recently. His technique isn’t as sharp as mine, and in those matches all he did was use his mindless aggression.” - “Considering who his opponent was, of course he couldn’t keep composure.”
“Do you think he’ll be able to keep it with all of the stuff that went on with that bounty on Philip?” Tara didn’t have time to reply. “In a situation like this, I would be able to use my speed to put distance between us. But in a cage? It really limits me.” - “Yes it does. That’s why I think this match is going to be a massacre.” Hailey knew she was right, but it didn’t help to hear it. “You have to do your best to stay away from his strikes, Hails. If you can’t use your speed to stay on the run, you have to use it to counter and avoid him.” - “Maybe I can trap him in a submission?” Hailey thought out loud. Tara shook her head. “I don’t recommend getting any closer than you need to be. I’m not exaggerating his power. He could rip you apart.”
Hailey nodded, “I guess stick with my speed and agility then.” Tara agreed. “You’re agility will certainly help you climb the cage. Pick your spot and climb as quickly as you can.” Tara stopped for a second. “I’m worried for you, Hailey. I’m sure Aiden is too. We just don’t want to see you hurt.” Hailey sat her cup down, “Thanks Tara, for everything. I’ll come up with a plan for sure.”
