JULY 7th, 2017
HAMPTON, VIRGINIA
"So tell me about you."
This beauty sat on one side of the table. The pale, porcelain skin of her face surrounded by jet black hair. Her lips were painted deep red in color, and her eyes were rimmed with smoky black eyeliner. She wore a black fitted shirt and skinny denim jeans. Various other accessories were worn to complete her look. Her hazel eyes were locked on the man sitting across from her. He was Noah Reigner. Earlier this evening, he and “Rumble” Reyes were successful in their first round match in the Union Battleground tag team tournament against Trixie and Tornado Desencadenado. Now here he sits, dressed also in denim jeans and a generic black t-shirt. His hand was gripped around the cold, dark bottle of beer while her hand was gently wrapped around the glass of the beverage she drank.
After the Union Battleground event, Noah went out into the night. He had a lot on his mind, primarily So-Cal Ultraviolent and the events that took place at the last Asylum event he attended. Noah was Los Renegados through and through, but his boss - his brother in arms - and his girlfriend all turned their backs on him. Aryanna is what stung the most. So in order to get over that, Noah needed a drink. He found a hole in the wall bar not too far away from the arena. Pushing his way in through the crowd, Noah approached the bar to order a drink then found a secluded table in the back. That was when this gorgeous woman made her way over. Asking if she could have a seat. She introduced herself as Brooklyn.
"About me? I'm a professional wrestler." He would reply. It’s a taboo topic to talk to random people about, you never know what their reaction would be. Noah, though, didn’t care. He said it affirmatively before taking a drink from his beer. Her eyebrows lifted in interest. She had never spoken to a pro wrestler. "Oh, really? Are you any good?", she asked.
Noah’s eyes looked up from his beer, finding hers. He smirked, shrugging his shoulders. "I'm alright." -- "Just alright?" She replied, smirking too. Her eyes studied him. His lightly bearded face, the tattoos that crept out from beneath the collar and sleeves of the shirt he wore. He certainly didn’t fit the mold for professional wrestlers that are highly publicized. You know, the big, muscled freaks. "What companies do you work for and what brings you all the way to Virginia?"
"Union Battleground brings me here.” Noah replied. Working this close to the arena, she must have seen the name on the flashing sign a couple of times leading up to tonight. She didn’t question it, but he continued anyway. “I had a tag team match tonight with my partner Rumble Reyes. But I also work for So Cal Ultraviolent in San Diego. … But I haven't been back there in awhile."
Her eyes lit up when he mentioned San Diego. "I would love to see California.” The young Baltimore-native had never been to the West Coast. Of course she’s seen it on television, heard how beautiful it was and so on. But she always wanted to visit, just never found the time or the reason to. “ I'm not sure I could leave there should I go.” She smiled, thinking of what it would be like. But that lasted for a moment before turning back to Noah. “What makes you stay away?"
"Long story." he replied simply. "We have time." she replied, just as abruptly as he did. Noah looked at her, perplexed. Why was she so interested?. Noah leaned back in his seat while she leaned forward, wrapping her red painted lips around the straw that stuck out from her drink.
"Well, Rumble and I were a part of a group out there called, Los Renegados - or the renegades. It was myself, Rumble, a guy by the name of Dick Devereaux, the owner of the company and his daughter. Julian, the owner, chose me to be the first recruit, I guess. But later brought in Devereaux and immediately he and I didn't see eye to eye." Noah leaned back, taking a drink from his beer.
"To cut to the end of the story - Dick, Julian and ... Aryanna.." he said a soft sigh. "All turned on me. Attacked me and left me broken and bloody in the ring. And I haven’t been back to San Diego since. I went back home to Seattle for awhile, and then I came out here for this match.” -- "I see." She nodded slowly. But she also picked up on Noah's hesitation when it came to mentioning Aryanna. "So Aryanna.."
His eyes widened a bit. She caught that. He began to lift the beer to his lips again, just before reaching the threshold of his mouth, he spat out a reply. "The owners daughter. My ex.". -- "Ah." She let out, also taking another sip from her drink. There was no need to press any further than that. Noah settled his beer bottle back down on the table, rolling it around the bottom edges. His eyes moved up to Brooklyn again.
"What about you, Brooklyn?" She let the straw slip from between her lips, the tip of her tongue tracing her bottom lip. The hint of a smile forms just seconds after. Her eyes lowered only slightly as she began to tell her story. "My parents are from Iceland. Father was a fisherman, mother was a teacher. They moved to Baltimore, Maryland searching for a new start in a new country. And with a new start, came me.”
She smiled brightly. Simple enough story, really. But Noah pressed a little further. “So what brings you to Virginia then?”. Her eyes found his again, and in a semi-mocking, semi-playful way she responded. “Professional wrestling. I’m the best.” She let out a cute little laugh as he looked at her, inquisitively.
“College. And now that's over so really, I've just been hanging out, working and such. I work here, actually. You just caught me on an off night.” Noah smirked to that last comment, “Lucky me, huh?”. Shooting him an almost seductive look, “Depends on how you look at it.”, she replied before offering a smile. He responded by returning the smile before taking another drink from the bottle of beer in front of him.
“When was your last match?” She returned the conversation back to him and his career. He held his bottle in his hand, it almost empty now. He had every intention of finishing it off right then, but found it best that he answered her. “Earlier tonight.” - “Did you win?”, she quickly asked the follow up question. “Yeah. My partner and I won our first round match.”
She rose her glass after his answer. “Well then we drink in celebration. Congratulations.” With his bottle still elevated, he clinked it against her glass before he finished his drink. She took a drink from hers, also almost finishing it. He sat his empty bottle on the table. She heard the sound of his empty bottle hitting the table, and flashed her eyes up to Noah. “So what’s the big plan tonight? Celebrating your win, painting our little town red?”
Noah, settling against his seat again, smirked and shook his head. “ ‘Fraid not. I need to head back to the hotel soon, actually. Flight back to Seattle tomorrow.” Brooklyn took the remaining sip of her drink and slid the empty glass onto the table top next to Noah’s empty beer bottle.
“Hotel?” She said. A rhetorical question that she didn’t expect him to, or give him time to answer. Her red lips formed a smile as she reached out, taking his hand in hers. “You won your match tonight. We’re going to show Hampton, Virginia how winners celebrate.” She slid off of her chair, standing up. He followed suit, standing next to her and showing the height difference between the two. Noah was an even Six foot and she looked to be about 5’2” at the tallest. “And what about my flight?” He asked, not really caring.
“We’ll figure that out tomorrow.” She turned, leading him through the busy bar and out into the night.
